My practice is deeply informed by the Frostig Center’s landmark 20-year longitudinal study tracking the attributes that predict long-term independence and life satisfaction for neurodivergent individuals.
True progress in grade-level Math and Chemistry is the vehicle we use to actively reinforce these six core attributes:
Self-Awareness: Helping students understand their unique learning profile, recognizing both their cognitive strengths and processing differences.
Proactivity: Moving a student from passive avoidance to active engagement with their schoolwork.
Perseverance: Transforming the intense anxiety of hitting an academic "wall" into a calm, steady effort to try another angle.
Goal Setting: Collaborating on realistic, micro-step academic targets rather than chasing an arbitrary letter grade.
Effective Use of Support Systems: Teaching students how and when to independently advocate for themselves with their school teachers.
Emotional Stability: Providing a calm, non-reactive ("Zen") environment to manage the normal ups and downs of the academic cycle.
