I help students transform academic anxiety into conceptual mastery by decoding the "how" of learning through the lens of core science and mathematics coursework. My approach builds deep subject matter confidence, practical study routines, and the self-advocacy skills students need to navigate school independently.
I provide strengths-based, in-person support for students in the Northwest and North Suburbs of Chicago, including Arlington Heights, Prospect Heights, Mt. Prospect, Des Plaines, Glenview, Wilmette, and surrounding areas. Remote support is also available.
I provide strengths-based math instruction for students in traditional classes who may feel overwhelmed or believe they are "not math people."
Grounded in Dr. Jo Boaler’s Mathematical Mindsets framework, my goal is to build deep conceptual understanding and dismantle math anxiety rather than rushing through accelerated coursework.
Core Subjects: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry.
The Approach: Utilizing the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) sequence to move students past rote memorization and into genuine mathematical confidence
Chemistry introduces an entirely new abstract language that frequently causes capable students to hit a wall. I help high schoolers break down complex chemical concepts, equations, and lab logic into manageable, visual components.
Courses: standard Chemsitry
The Approach: I focus heavily on vocabulary scaffolding, multi-sensory mental models, and step-by-step problem-solving routines to reduce academic stress.
Academic success is not just about understanding content. Many students also need help starting tasks, managing steps, learning from mistakes, studying effectively, and preparing for assessments.
I do not offer standalone organizational tutoring, backpack cleaning, assignment tracking, or compliance-based homework support. Instead, I embed executive function strategies directly into math and chemistry tutoring, using the student’s real coursework as the place where study habits and independence are practiced.
Students learn to break intimidating assignments into manageable steps, analyze errors calmly, prepare for quizzes and tests, and build routines that support greater independence over time.
Task Initiation: We use current assignments to practice breaking intimidating, multi-step problems down into concrete micro-tasks.
Metacognitive Habits: Students learn to analyze their own academic errors objectively, transforming test anxiety into a calm, proactive problem-solving mindset.
Independence: Grounded in the Frostig Center’s Six Success Factors, we focus on self-awareness and sustainable coping strategies to move a student away from parent-managed compliance and toward self-advocacy.
True academic confidence, mathematical mindset shifts, and executive functioning habits cannot be rushed or crammed into a single evening. Because my approach relies heavily on building trust, reducing anxiety, and establishing steady routines, I specialize exclusively in long-term, proactive partnerships with families.
To protect the progress of my existing caseload, I am unable to accept single-session homework compliance bookings or last-minute exam cramming.
Best suited for: Families seeking regular weekly or twice-weekly support over a semester or school year to build foundational independence.
Not suited for: Students looking for an immediate quick fix the night before a major test.
Please note: My math and chemistry tutoring is designed for students in standard grade-level courses or students working to strengthen below-grade-level foundations. I typically do not tutor accelerated, honors, or AP-level coursework.
I thrive working with:
Collaborative Students: Learners who are ready, even if reluctantly, to engage with support and try new strategies. Real growth comes from their willingness, effort, and participation.
Supportive Families: Parents who value diverse learning profiles, commit to reinforcing routines at home, and partner patiently for long-term progress rather than an immediate "quick fix."
Standard Track Alignment: Families who value steady, stress-free confidence building over high-stakes GPA competition. My practice is designed specifically for standard or below-grade-level support, not honors or accelerated advancement.
When the primary concern is significant behavioral regulation, school refusal, emotional dysregulation, or ongoing parent-child conflict around homework, families may be better served by a clinician, therapist, or ADHD/behavior specialist.
Tutoring is a team effort. If this sounds like your family, we'll make great progress together!
